British Airways' Chairman Visit to Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI)

Ben-Gurion International Airport, Israel - British Airways (BA)'s Chairman, Lord Colin Marshall (Lord Marshall of Knightsbridge), visited Israel Aircraft Industries' (IAI) facilities at Lod, Israel last Thursday (14.12.00).

Lord Marshall visited the Aircraft Division and the Engine Division at IAI's BEDEK Aviation Group facilities, and also met with IAI's Chairman of the Board - Mr. Ori Orr.

IAI's capabilities in passenger to freighter aircraft conversions were presented, as was the Galaxy business jet. Lord Marshall expressed interest in IAI's capabilities in various areas: Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO), engines and components, and indicated a willingness to initiate a dialog between IAI and British Airways representatives.

British Airways is one of the few airlines flying to Israel which has not reduced its schedule because of the drop in air travel to the country due to the security situation in recent weeks.

Speaking at a news conference in Tel Aviv, Lord Marshall said that BA is considering increasing the number of flights it operates on the Tel Aviv - London route to 21 flights weekly. The company now operates 18 weekly flights on that route, using new Boeing 777 airplanes.

During his visit to Israel, Lord Marshall also met with the Minister of Tourism and Transport - Mr. Amnon Lipkin-Shahak, the Chairman of Israel's national carrier El Al - Mr. Joseph Ciechanover, El Al's CEO - Mr. David Hermesh, and Mr. Israel Borovitz, Chairman of Arkia.
