Ben- Gurion International Airport, Israel - Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) Bedek Aviation Engines Division, inaugurated a High Speed Grinding (HSG) machine for the rotary grinding of gas turbine engine compressors.
The HSG machine costs $2.5 million and was initiated as a cooperative joint venture agreement between IAI and Chromalloy Gas Corporation, as part of the broader technological and strategic partnership. Chromalloy Gas Corporation, U.S.A. based, is a subsidiary of Sequa Corp., a leading company in the field of manufacturing and repair of various components for different types of aircraft engines. This partnership will significantly contribute to the competitiveness of Bedek Aviation Engines Division in the modern turbine engine overhaul and maintenance market.
The unique capability of the HSG machine is the process in which it accurately grinds compressor blade tips while it rotates at a high rate of speeds of several thousand RPM's (Rounds Per Minute) for the overhaul of modern gas turbine engines. This new machine can only be found in a few facilities worldwide.
Bedek Aviation Engines Division is an established worldwide industry leader in the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) international market place. The facility is fully equipped to repair and overhaul a wide range of aircrafts and engines along with providing customer satisfaction, regulatory compliance, safety and cost effectiveness. Bedek's average yearly sales are approximately $500 million of which approximately $180 million is accounted for by the Engines Division.
