IAI's MALAT UAV Division and ELTA Systems Combine To Win Competition To Provide Maritime Patrol UAVs

Israel Aircraft Industries MALAT UAV Division and IAI's ELTA Systems combined their capabilities to winMaritime Patrol UAVan international competition to develop and manufacture an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) for Maritime Patrol Missions.

ELTA's EL/M-2022U Maritime Surveillance radar was selected to be installed on a UAV developed by the MALAT Division. The ELTA radar provides support to the following missions:

 - Anti-surface and littoral warfare
 - Exclusive Economical Zone (EEZ) fisheries control
 - Search and rescue
 - Prevention of illegal immigration, drug smuggling and terror activities
 - Image Intelligence for target detection and classification
 - Airborne targets detection and tracking
 - Weather forecast

ELTA Systems, TAMAM and MALAT Divisions Demonstrate UAV radar and Electro Optical Surveillance System

Three Israel Aircraft Industries divisions combined their various technologies and products to successfullyMaritime Patrol Antennademonstrate to a customer an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Airborne Maritime Surveillance Radar and Electro-optical system. A second potential client viewed the demonstration.

The radar demonstration included:

 - SEA MODE - Detection and tracking of surface targets
 - CALSSIFICATION MODE - By Range Signature and Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR) including automatic classification according to embedded ISAR library
 - AIR MODE - Detection and tracking of airborne platforms
 - MAPPING MODE - Coastal areas

A Ground Station that included UAV Flight Control, the Electro-optical operator station and the Radar operator station controlled the demonstration.

There is a growing demand for UAVs capable of performing combined intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance mission in high dangers area.

IAI's ELTA Systems Group and IAI's TAMAM Division Selected By Aviation Week For One Of The 2002 Aerospace Laurels Award

Aviation Week and Space Technology Magazine each year selects companies and individuals who have made significant contributions in aerospace during the past year.

IAI's ELTA Systems Group and IAI's Tamam Division were selected for their contributions in providing technical systems that supported the Israel Defense Forces identifying, tracking and intercepting the Karine A ship that was involved in trying to smuggle arms into Israel. The Karine A ship traveled in a very dense environment, but was unable to avoid the sensors located aboard ELTA's multi-sensor Boeing 737 test bed.

The aircraft was equipped with ELTA's Maritime Surveillance Radar and with SAR and ISAR capabilities and the MOSP electro-optical sensor of TAMAM Division.

For contributing to the success of the mission ELTA and TAMAM received the Aviation Week Laurel.
