OVERVIEW
The IAI Wind Tunnels Center is a national hub for airborne platform development, featuring three advanced wind tunnels—Subsonic, Trisonic, and Hypersonic—covering velocities from 0 to Mach 12. With over 40 years of experience, it performs aerodynamic tests for civil and military programs, including the LAVI aircraft, Arrow & Barak missiles, and G-200 and G-280 business jets, delivered by an expert team ensuring accurate results.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Subsonic, Trisonic and Hypersonic tunnels – covering velocity range from 0 to 12 Mach.
- Design and manufacturing models including their instrumentation
- Balances – Design, manufacturing and calibration
Values & Benefits
The IAI Wind Tunnels Center offers a complete solution to meet customer requirements at minimum cost and time. This includes design and manufacturing of models with instrumentation, design, manufacturing, and calibration of balances, CFD analysis, and flow visualization. Experimental work can be performed and analyzed quickly at a single location.
- Low Speed Tunnel: Atmospheric, continuous, test section 3.66×2.59 m², L=8 m, Mach 0–0.3
- High Speed Tunnel: Blow down, variable nozzle, test section 4×4×5 ft³, transonic Mach 0.4–2.0, supersonic Mach 1.6–5.0
- Hypersonic Tunnel: Blow down, fixed nozzle, 45 cm axi-symmetric test section, Mach 5, 6, 8, 10, 12
- Force and moment tests using external and internal balances
- Ground effect, pressure, and engine tests
- Temperature and heat transfer tests
- Grid and trajectory tests using the Captive Trajectory System (CTS)
- Flow visualization and pressure measurements
