The Cyber Division of Israel Aerospace Industries hosted a think tank of experts and thought leaders as part of the European Union Horizon 2020 DOGANA R&D Program.
The DOGANA Program addresses the social engineering challenge within social media by developing a framework that delivers “aDvanced sOcial enGineering And vulNerability Assessment”. The underlying premise of DOGANA is that Social Driven Vulnerabilities Assessments (SDVAs), when regularly performed via an efficient and effective framework, would help deploy effective mitigation strategies and lead to reducing the risk created by Social Engineering attacks within social media. The program comprises 18entities from 10 countries.
The goal of the Think Tank was to exchange of information between the experts and thought leaders from the DOGANA project and several key organizations in the Israeli Cyber eco-system. Among those who attended the Think Tank from the Israeli side were representatives of the Justice Ministry, The Israeli Privacy Protection Authority, Several IT Security experts as well as industry experts on Social Engineering in social media.
The main topics that were discussed during the meetings were the effect of the new European privacy regulations, the GDPR, on Cyber Security in general and on Social Engineering within social media in particular, the most effective mitigation techniques for Social Engineering in social media and the role played by Computer Network Influence (CNI) in the evolving field of Cyber Threats.
Computer Network Influence (CNI) is an emerging and growing trend is, aiming to influence social trends and public opinion (e.g. influencing elections), via social engineering attempts and fake news in social media. CNI attacks have an underlying economical & political influence.
The important outcome of the Think Tank was cross domain exchange of information between the participants and experts, from the legal, psychological and technological areas with Israeli decision makers, and mapping out ideas and concepts for addressing the growing threat within the DOGANA framework. This was recognized by all participants as contributing greatly to their work in these fields.
