OVERVIEW
The ELM-2161 Detect & Avoid (DAA) Radar by IAI ELTA is a cutting-edge system for Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) such as Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), enhancing safety and operational efficiency by detecting and avoiding potential airborne collisions. Operating in the X-band frequency, it provides wide coverage, tracks cooperative and non-cooperative intruders, delivers real-time updates, fits within the aircraft nose, meets SWaP requirements, complies with international safety standards, and supports all-weather operations.
HIGHLIGHTS
- All-weather, air-to-air Detect and Avoid (DAA)
- Radar based system for Remotely Piloted Aircraft
- Detects and tracks in the Field of Regard (+/- 110° in azimuth and +/-15° in elevation)
- Complies with RTCA DO-366A MOPS
Values & Benefits
The ELM-2161 provides a field of regard of +/- 110 degrees in azimuth and +/- 15 degrees in elevation. It detects and tracks both cooperative and non-cooperative intruders, ensuring that RPAs can avoid collisions by maintaining a safe distance from other aircraft. The radar’s detection ranges vary by the size of the intruder.
The system boasts an update rate of less than one second, ensuring immediate response. It includes two compact Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) antennas, which, along with the radar processor, are designed to fit within the nose of the aircraft. The entire system weighs approximately 20 kg, making it suitable for various RPA platforms without compromising performance.
Air-cooled and SWaP-compliant, the ELM-2161 is a practical solution for modern UAS operations. It meets RTCA DO-366A MOPS and safety standards DO178/254 (DAL-C certifiable), ensuring regulatory compliance for National Airspace (NAS), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) airspace, and Military Airspace (MAS).
The radar includes a weather mode, enhancing operational capability in diverse environmental conditions. This functionality ensures RPAs can safely navigate and complete missions regardless of the weather.
