OVERVIEW
HTS – Helicopter Training and Safety System provides live helicopter training by offering high‑value embedded pilot training with maximized safety features. It delivers high‑fidelity simulation for helicopter weapons and tactical flight training in a hostile environment, including live and virtual EW threats. The system allows enhanced debriefing to optimize flight hours and resources, while real‑time hit/miss assessments provide effective training with both live and virtual targets. HTS is available in two off‑the‑shelf configurations that support a wide range of helicopter platforms.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Train attack helicopter pilots with gunnery live training independently and with CTC (Combat Training Center) players. Enriches live training with computer generated armaments and red forces
- On board System. Pod like hardware (e.g. hellfire) configuration for attack helicopters.
- Box hardware configuration for utility helicopters enriched with EW training
- Maximize the cost-effectiveness of training
- Provides realistic tactical engagements training for attack helicopters, including target acquisition and weapon’s delivery, with full A/A, A/G missile simulations and scoring.
- Enhanced safety capabilities including military and civil aviation anti-collision/ground obstacles collision avoidance and ‘Watch-Dog’ on airspace and platform restrictions.
- Enhanced debriefing capabilities
- Interoperability with complimentary training systems like, AACMI fighters, Air defence and CTC players.
Values & Benefits
THRUST is an airborne pod designed for attack helicopters, specifically the Apache AH‑64, and is already fit for the training system. It is an embedded Tactical Helicopter Rehearsal Autonomous Safety and Training system built for attack helicopters and fits within a Hellfire enclosure. The system is “plug and play” for any Apache and can be integrated into other missile enclosures as required. THRUST enables training with Combat Training Centers (CTC), allowing helicopters to engage ground forces such as tanks and be targeted by SAMs, with audio and visual hit/miss feedback for both helicopters and ground forces.
The Internal RWR training kit is a standalone solution that can be mounted on any helicopter, allowing crews to train in a battlefield environment without additional forces. It is independent of helicopter assets beyond mounting space and simulates anti‑aircraft systems engaging the helicopter with real‑life behavior and a generic RWR display. Pilots can perform escape maneuvers as in real life, with the system scoring results accordingly. Threat scenarios are preplanned on the ground and loaded via the mission planning station.
The system injects virtual EW threats to the helicopter, enabling effective training from take‑off in a hostile environment. Threats can be presented on the real RWR or a tablet. Helicopters can train against live targets ranging from “pop up” targets to vehicles or real SAMs, with hit/miss assessment generated in real time. Virtual SAMs can also engage helicopters, with maneuvers and countermeasures like chaff and flares considered in the scoring. Safety features include midair and ground collision avoidance, obstacle warnings, and airspace and platform restriction monitoring based on a detailed DTED 2 ground database.
Debriefing allows reconstruction of all flight data, synchronized audio/video, and common review with the IAF Ehud ACMI system. Both 2D and 3D formats are available, supporting “what if” scenarios to maximize learning and training value.
