OVERVIEW
The ELM-2270 OTH (Over-The-Horizon) HF Coastal Surveillance Radar by IAI-ELTA Systems is a state-of-the-art radar system designed for long-range maritime and low-flying aircraft detection. Operating in the High Frequency (HF) range and using surface-wave propagation, the radar detects targets beyond the horizon by leveraging the interaction between HF waves and the ocean surface, where saltwater waves draw HF waves to the ground and enable visibility beyond the line of sight.
HIGHLIGHTS
- HF band operation
- Continuous large area situation awareness picture
- High resolution digital array
- Flexible receiving antenna array size
- Advanced noise cancellation (ionosphere clutter, man-made, communication)
- Pulse Doppler large integration time
- Cost-effective maintenance
Values & Benefits
The ELM-2270’s advanced design significantly reduces radar interference compared to other systems due to its sophisticated interference cancellation algorithms. This technology effectively rejects ionosphere clutter and other sources of noise, ensuring reliable and continuous coverage.
The radar system is mounted on a robust land-based platform, equipped with high technological capabilities, ensuring durability and performance in various environmental conditions.
Capable of detecting large targets at great distances, the ELM-2270 can monitor large ships, fishing boats and low-flying aircrafts.
The ELM-2270 utilizes a 2D Uniform Circular Array (UCA) receiving antenna and a co-located transmit antenna, transmitting a wide-angle beam covering 120° in azimuth. This configuration allows for full Digital Beam Forming (DBF) and instantaneous coverage of the entire sector. The radar provides comprehensive Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance, generating an over-the-horizon situation awareness picture and ensuring effective coastal monitoring and early threat detection.
