OVERVIEW
The battle picture of modern conflict zones is rapidly changing, and maintaining secured, reliable and seamless communication across the battlefield is crucial for the success of any mobile air, land or sea operation. Military communications have long relied on legacy GEO (Geostationary) satellites, which provide wide-area coverage but face new transmission jamming threats and significant latency due to their 36,000 km orbit. IAI is introducing its new LEO (Low Earth Orbit) space-based communication constellation to provide fast-paced, wide band communication hubs, offering unparalleled connectivity beyond Line of Sight to operational assets throughout the arena.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Fast, secured, advanced LEO-based communication service
- Supports a wide range of frequencies
- Supports legacy systems, with easy software and firmware upgrades
- Based on IAI’s 40+ years of experience in space projects
- Flexible and easy to configure. Complete control over encryption, usage and Quality of Service
Values & Benefits
Unlike traditional communication devices and GEO satellites, LEO communication satellites provide coverage by several satellites from different angles. This allows for a much closer communication range, resulting with increased SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio), much lower energy to complete transmissions, and shorter latency delays. Moreover, LEO satellites are harder to track and jam thus allowing quality of service assurance. The complete solution is robust, resilient, and reliable. The cost per bandwidth and throughput is considerably lower, compared with GEO solutions, or UAV based relay solution.
IAI’s SafeCom communication service is a LEO based, multiband (Ka, Ku, S, L, and UHF…) service, supporting legacy terminals, therefore reducing the costs of incorporating existing platforms equipped communication devices and antennas. Aircrafts, ships, ground vehicles and airborne vehicle can easily be adapted using software and firmware upgrades, into existing systems, and tap into the new world of communication network. The SafeCom service interconnects all of it satellites via a Laser Based communication transceiver, supporting the framework with extremely high throughput backbone, between satellites and to the ground communication hubs.
SafeCom service is flexible and easy to configure. Each user entity is able to manage the priorities, capacities, encryption policies, safety and robustness level of each end-user. This allows for real-time monitoring of each user, based on location, threat level, and communication needs. The power of SafeCom’s LEO communication satellites extends far beyond providing a fast and secured communication solution for the battlefield. It’s real time connectivity and affordability, allows for a lightning-fast communication solution for commercial and civil application, suitable for any scenario that requires quick and reliable communication service.
IAI’s SafeCom is an advanced LEO communication solution that utilizes IAI’s legacy knowledge in space base GEO digital communication solutions, incorporating state of the art Space Borne Software Defined Radio payload. SafeCom services are augmented by IAI’s innovative ground segment software and advanced data processing to deliver multi-level connectivity and analytics with unprecedented speed, allowing to process communication data into operable intelligence. Based on over four decades of space excellence and dozens of successful space missions, SafeCom is IAI’s state of the art LEO communication Service. Several LEO satellites of various types are in orbit, as well as GEO communication satellites. Designed according to strict requirements and built to the highest standards, IAI’s satellites are in constant use by customers worldwide.
