Advanced Radar Technology for National Security
The ability of independent nations to maintain the integrity of their territorial airspace and protect their civilian populations from attack is a cornerstone upon which sovereignty rests. Sadly, recent events around the globe demonstrate how the proliferation of dangerous weapons technology challenges this crucial effort. Ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, crude unguided rockets, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and even commercially sourced drones endanger civilians and undermine social and economic stability.

Rising Threats and the Need for Effective Air defence
It is therefore not surprising that governments are now investing tremendous resources to establish and maintain effective air defensive systems to counter these continually rising threats. The effectiveness of these systems is dependent upon their ability to generate an accurate, up-to-date national air situation picture (NASP) at all times. It is thus imperative that they have the ability to quickly detect, identify, and classify all aerial traffic and distinguish between actual threats and innocent targets – tasks made increasingly difficult as new threats evolve and multiply. For example, the widespread proliferation of compact, low, and slow-flying platforms is testing the ability of radar systems to detect, track, and classify all relevant threats. Moreover, the continuing growth in worldwide aviation has resulted in a far denser national aerospace, further complicating this effort.
ELTA Systems’ Innovative Solution
In response to these difficult challenges ,ELTA Systems Ltd., developed the advanced ELM-2084 Multi-Mission Radar System (MMR). This class-leading system employs the latest in-house developed technologies and unique processing techniques to deliver lifesaving performance. These are not empty words: MMR has proven its mettle over literally thousands of interceptions of rockets and missiles aimed at Israel’s civilian population in its role as the main sensor of the Iron Dome & David’s Sling Air defence Systems. Along with ELTA’s formidable Green Pine anti-ballistic missile radar, MMR supports Israel’s national warning system, providing continuous data to the Israeli Air Force, including precise warnings that enable citizens to enter protected areas in time. This proven system is also in service with leading defence organizations worldwide, including NATO members.
Proven Performance in Critical Situations
The MMR’s impressive capabilities were ably demonstrated during the October 7th Hamas attack on Israel’s southern border communities, during which thousands of rockets rained down on Israeli population centers around the country in an attempt to confuse and interfere with defensive efforts against the actual terrorist onslaught. MMR’s highly effective target detection, discrimination, and precise tracking capabilities ensured that kinetic resources were optimally deployed to destroy the necessary targets and minimize loss of life and material damage. The MMR’s mettle was tested yet again when Iran unleashed its unprecedented attack involving over three hundred drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles on the night of April 13, 2024. As the primary sensor of the Iron Dome, David’s Sling, and Barak air defence systems, MMR played an important role in defeating the attack, achieving an unprecedented target interception success rate, saving countless lives and minimizing extensive potential damage to infrastructure.
